NCRC Monthly Newsletter – May 2020

Events, E-Sports and Social Distancing Policies

Hello all NCRCers,

We hope all is well with you and yours. This month’s NCRC newsletter is brought to you by the letter D, as in we are disappointed in the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 shelter-in-place, but determined to beat this thing and move forward in our lives, including a return to the track. In keeping with that, we have made some changes to the schedule and we’re introducing a new way to stay competitive behind the wheel with our E-Sports program!

First off, Laguna Seca has cancelled all events for the month of May, so our May 19th event is unfortunately no longer going to happen. However, as of now our June 12th event featuring the full Thunderhill 5-Mile course is looking likely to be a go!
We are all itching to get back out to the track as much as you are, and that means adapting to conditions as they change.

With the cancelling of some events, we have worked with the tracks to add some others:
Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca: Tuesday, September 29th, 92db
Thunderhill Raceway: Saturday and Sunday, November 14th and 15th, 2-Mile

Going froward with this year, Thunderhill Raceway is implementing a new 95db sound policy for all group sessions run from 8am-9am and all sessions after 5:00pm.  This applies to all organizations, not just NCRC.  Based on the time spread, that means most groups will have one 95db session.

Starting at the June 12th event at Thunderhill, we will enact the following policies to keep everyone safe and healthy:

NCRC’s Social Distancing Policy
  1. The Mentor Program is suspended until the end of the year.
  2. Private in-car instruction is temporarily suspended.
  3. Primary group meetings will be in the form of online videos, and participants will be expected to view them prior to arriving.  We will keep them as short as we can though.  Participants will be required to sign a statement saying they have viewed the meeting in its entirety before they receive their track pass.
  4. The meetings that will still need to be held in person will be outside as much as possible. Any meeting held indoors, including driving school, will have strict physical social distancing.
  5. Until further notice, all participants will be required to wear masks at the event site.  You will not need to wear a mask when driving.  If you do not have a mask or face covering you will be required to leave and no refund will be given.
  6. If you are sick, stay home.  If you are sick on site you will be asked to leave and no-refund will be given.
  7. If you are considered at high risk for coronavirus, due to underlying conditions or for any other reason, we strongly recommend staying away from events for the time being.
  8. While overall our sport is solitary in nature, please understand that we cannot guarantee no exposure and we encourage you to practice heightened social distancing and to be mindful of vulnerable individuals after you leave an event.
