June 2020 – NCRC

Hello all NCRCers,

We hope you are all staying safe and social distancing even as life opens back up and we work to get back to normal. A small part of that includes track days, and we look forward to seeing you at NCRC’s Thunderhill 5-mile on Friday, June 12. There are a few spots left to join us at the longest – and one of the more exciting and technical – tracks in California and possibly the entire country. We expect good weather and we hope you can join us for a relaxing day at the track away from the stress of the world at the moment!

We also welcome the return of racing in August, specifically our Thunderhill East weekend on August 22 and 23. We’ll have more to share on that in our next newsletter, but please mark your calendars!

Before we share a reminder of NCRC’s social distancing policies, which will absolutely be in place for Friday, June 12, at Thunderhill, the NCRC team wanted to take a moment to share our thoughts on events in the world beyond Covid-19. At its core, we see racing as inclusive. We are united by our shared love of cars and of the tracks that allow us to leave rubber and brake dust on them. Whether you drive a purpose-built racecar or one that you built yourself, whether you have a mechanic do all the work on your car or you do the work yourself due to necessity or just joy, we all love the act of taking a car to the limit while bettering ourselves. Biases based on race, gender, or sexual preference have no place here, or anywhere else for that matter. We hope you share in this view and can display the tenets of inclusiveness and kindness in all aspects of your life, not just at the track.

NCRC’s Social Distancing Policy

The Mentor Program is suspended until the end of the year.
Private in-car instruction is temporarily suspended.
Primary group meetings will be in the form of online videos, and participants will be expected to view them prior to arriving. We will keep them as short as we can though. Participants will be required to sign a statement saying they have viewed the meeting in its entirety before they receive their track pass.
The meetings that will still need to be held in person will be outside as much as possible. Any meeting held indoors, including driving school, will have strict physical social distancing.
Until further notice, all participants will be required to wear masks at the event site. You will not need to wear a mask when driving. If you do not have a mask or face covering you will be required to leave and no refund will be given.
If you are sick, stay home. If you are sick on site you will be asked to leave and no-refund will be given.
If you are considered at high risk for coronavirus, due to underlying conditions or for any other reason, we strongly recommend staying away from events for the time being.
While overall our sport is solitary in nature, please understand that we cannot guarantee no exposure and we encourage you to practice heightened social distancing and to be mindful of vulnerable individuals after you leave an event
